The current session dates of In the Words of Womyn:

Currently ITWOW meets in one location @ Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural in Sylmar, CA.  

ITWOW is held on Friday evenings from 6:00pm – 7:30pm; there is an Open Mic immediately following ITWOW every Friday from 8:00pm – 10:00pm; all are invited to stay and participate.  Please check Session Dates below for more information on the current or next session.

In the Words of Womyn is a 10-12 week workshop for womyn who write, have written, desire to write…anything!  The workshop is designed to empower womyn to give sound to our story and volume through our voice through the discipline and practice of the written and spoken word arts.  There is no fee or registration required, simply show up with your favorite writing notebook/journal, some of your own writing samples, and a desire to listen and to share.  Donations will be collected weekly and will go 100% to fund the programs and workshops provided to the community by Tia Chucha’s.

Each workshop is comprised of three components:
Freewrite: quiet writing time to journal, write a reflection, work on a poem or short story.  This time is designed to promote the discipline of regular writing beyond writing only when feeling inspired.

Sharing Published Writers’ Works: group members each have an opportunity to share a work by a published womyn writer.  This provides opportunities to raise our awareness of other womyn writers, to engage in discussing other writers’ styles and techniques, and to share how these womyn inspire our own written and spoken word arts.

Sharing our Writings: the sharing, out loud, of group members’ own writing (short story, journal, article, poem, editorial, memoir, etc).  This portion of the workshop focuses on the practice of performing written pieces aloud.
